What Fossils can you find at Bembridge?

(Collecting from Bembridge - 1999)

The Bembridge Limestone is well exposed towards the North, moulds of Galba and Planorbina are common, gastropods have been found. Within a thin layer of grey, green and black clays, Corbicula are quite common. These shells are not very well preserved and often broken or badly worn.

Following the Limestone, the Bembridge Marls Member and Bouldnor Formation can be seen, marked by a pale green marl with poorly preserved Potamides and Polymesoda. A Thin Oyster bed containing Ostrea together with flints and occasional other shells can be identified by thin pale sands.

Further on, the lower section of the Bembridge Marls contain molluscs of Polymesoda and gastropods higher up in these beds of Viviparus.
